The story of the Dorchester Carnival Band
"THE DORCHESTER CARNIVAL BAND" was formed some fifteen years ago when former members of the Boys' Brigade met for a reunion. It started as a "bit of fun" but soon took hold after doing a few carnivals.
The band was then known as "The Dorchester Old Boys' Band" and it consisted of a few Side Drums and Bugles - its 'uniform' being plain white shirt and black trousers.
Later, to attract more members into the band the name was changed to "The Dorchester Carnival Band", adding Bell Lyres, Tenor Drums and tuneable Silver Bugles to its line up to give more scope.
Also from the plain uniform it was decided to change into a show band and dress up in a different costume each year. To date the Band has been seen in the guise of Gnomes, Bumble Bees, Ali Ba-Bas, Clowns and Pirates..........more
