Sturminster Newton Carnival

We parked up in good time and met up with the other bands taking part also with a couple of troops of majorettes. We lined up ready to go on time and guess what - we were last out.... again!

When we made a start, the crowd were really up for it as we made our way through the square for the first time. Everybody was clapping along and joining in and generally having a great time.

Part way along the route we elected to pull out and wait, together with the other bands for the procession to wend its way around the block. While waiting, we enjoyed our usual hospitality from a very nice family who provided us with some well deserved refreshment.

A bouquet of flowers was presented to the lady of the house, and we were on our way back towards the square with instructions to get in and have fun.

Never ones to miss an opportunity we stopped all the traffic, including a very large tractor - not by laying Merv in the road - but by asking nicely!!!!

The crowd were up for a good time and the square was soon reverberating to the strains of the familiar tunes plus a few more. To round it off a large Hokey Cokey was enjoyed and we marched off to rapturous applause and shouts for more.

Altogether a great night at Sturminster, and I am sure it will be repeated next year.

Many thanks to all Sturminster Newton folk and visitors for a wonderful reception. We're sorry about the lack of photos for this event, but our camera man forgot to put any film in his digital camera.....!

If anyone has any photos they would like to see up here from Sturminster, please let us know from our contact page form or ring the secretary on 01305 - 262863.
